Volunteers sprang into action to rescue three sacred Torah scrolls buried beneath the debris of a burnt-down synagogue in upstate New York this week, according to recent reports. Following the blaze that engulfed the Chassidim of the Heights temple in Rockland County, members of a volunteer safety patrol wasted no time in delving into the charred remains to retrieve a safe housing the holy texts. After firefighters extinguished the flames, the group embarked on a painstaking mission, spending over an hour to free the safe. With tools in hand, they meticulously cut through metal and pried open the safe with crowbars to reach the precious scrolls, securing them in a plastic bag.
